Rehearse safely
Use this guide after the app tutorial or Slidev tutorial.
Choose what you need to practice
| Method | Best for | Saves new participation? |
|---|---|---|
| Static component data | Slide layout, chart styling, and offline fallback | No; it does not collect participation |
| Separate practice talk | Full end-to-end checks, including saved results | Yes |
| Demo mode | Demonstrating participation events without saving new submissions | No for poll answers, audience questions, feedback messages, and feedback reactions |
Demo mode is a per-talk setting. It does not delete existing results, start the talk, or unlock plan-restricted features. Voting and audience-question highlighting are unavailable in demo mode.
Practice without a live connection
Use the static example with live credentials removed from your environment and user configuration. It should render without retrieving a talk.
This checks component rendering, not QR access, authentication, realtime delivery, or saved answers.
Practice a real audience journey
For the simplest full rehearsal:
- Create a dedicated practice talk, or duplicate your talk.
- Review its demo-mode setting: duplicates inherit it.
- Choose Run and enable the features you intend to use.
- Open the audience link on a phone, not just your signed-in presenter browser.
- Submit a poll answer and feedback. If available on your plan, try a live reaction and an audience question.
- Confirm results in the owner workspace and the connected presentation.
- Choose Finish when done.
Use a separate talk so practice answers do not mix with a real session. Finishing and restarting a talk do not clear its results.
Use demo mode through the integration API
Demo mode is controlled through the API, not a documented Slidev frontmatter switch. Use a token with read and write. Make these requests from a trusted API client; keep the token out of shared request history.
Replace YOUR_USERNAME and YOUR_TALK_NUMBER in this endpoint:
https://inalia.app/api/YOUR_USERNAME/talks/YOUR_TALK_NUMBER/demo-mode
Send these headers:
Accept: application/json
Authorization: Bearer YOUR_DEDICATED_TOKEN
| Action | HTTP method | Request body |
|---|---|---|
| Enable demo mode | POST | None |
| Disable demo mode | DELETE | None |
Read the talk back with GET https://inalia.app/api/YOUR_USERNAME/talks/YOUR_TALK_NUMBER using the same headers and check data.demo_mode. Confirm it is true before rehearsing and false before collecting real responses. A failed or uncertain request is not confirmation of the setting.
Keep the talk running during the rehearsal. New demo submissions can appear live without increasing saved answer counts. This is expected.
Pre-flight checklist
Before inviting the real audience:
- Correct account, talk number, and question snippets are configured.
- Demo mode is off, including on duplicated talks.
- Talk is running; the scheduled date alone does not start it.
- Intended features are enabled and available on your plan.
- A phone on the venue network can open the audience link.
- A poll answer reaches the presentation and is saved in the owner workspace.
- QR codes are readable, with a text link alongside them.
- Presenter and management links are not shared.
- The live-configured deck is not publicly hosted or served on an untrusted network.
- A static slide or verbal fallback is ready if connectivity fails.
Keep the talk running until built-in feedback collection is complete, then choose Finish. Delete temporary integration tokens when no longer needed.
If an action's outcome is uncertain, refresh and inspect the current state before retrying. See Troubleshooting.
